Birki sleeps and dozes. The IV infusion pump ticks like a muffled clock.

She's on top of one of my shirts, and has padding and soft blankets provided by the clinic. Most of the time, my hand is against her flank.

The tech is supposed to be back momentarily with more hot water bottles for her. They just had to rerun her bloodwork, there was "a problem" with the first run.

Online research is telling me she's a very poor candidate for dialysis. (And the nearest vet dialysis center is at UC Davis, and would cost about seven hundred per week, for the rest of her life.)

The hormone therapy that would fix her renal related anemia works wonderfully well in trials, but... it's not yet being manufactured.

I hate being somewhere were the tech level is not sufficient for my needs. A synthetic feline kidney should be a standard off-the-shelf item, stocked by all vet surgical clinics.

How the hell am I going to get her home?

poor kitten!

How long did it take to drive down there? I don't have any good suggestions. :(

oh, dear. I hope she is getting better. She's lucky to have someone like you to care for her.

Could you make her a little "incubator" where she is kept warm and quiet?

Birki might get better on her own. Or you might get a new diagnosis that means that she needs something that you can provide. It's admirable that you are willing to stick with her and do what you can.

I'm really sorry you're having to endure this. I know Birki is your family, your love. I'm thinking of you, hoping for the best for you both. *hugs*

While obviously not a cat person...

... I know enough to know it hurts. Sorry to hear about it.

As long as there aren't functional implantable HUMAN artificial kidneys (which, unless things have changed drastically when I wasn't looking, there aren't), however, I seriously doubt you're going to get the advantage of such things for cats, alas.

I am so sorry your baby is ill. Birki is such a sweetie. Know that you are in my thoughts. Hugs.

I'm so sorry. It's so hard to see our feline friends hurting, and not know how to help.

*hugs*

This may sound strange, but see if you can find someone to give her an acupuncture treatment. Reiki also seems to work amazingly well on cats suffering from renal failure. It won't cure her, but it could give her enough help for you to get her home again.
