What is OAuth?

One of the geeky thing I'm involved with is OAuth. This protocol is very useful (I think) and will be very widely deployed (I hope). But it's kinda hard to explain quickly and simply what it is, why it's needed, and how it works.

I found a good blog post But here that tells the history and the "why?" pretty well.
